Position

Average position shows where your brand typically appears when AI mentions you (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on). Lower is better.

Average position = mean(position across all mentions)

How it works

When AI answers a prompt, it often lists or recommends multiple brands. Position is the order in which you appear: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Lower is better.

How it's calculated

We take every mention of your brand across AI answers and record its position (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). The average position is the mean of those positions. For example, if you're 1st in one answer, 3rd in another, and 2nd in a third, your average position is 2.0.

Why it matters

  • Visibility vs. position: You can have high visibility (mentioned often) but a poor average position (always last in the list). Improving position means moving up when you do appear.
  • Competitive context: Compare your average position to competitors. Being mentioned first more often can influence how users perceive you.
